John had recorded and sent Dave the piano refrain of “Showtime” and then Dave had the overwhelming urge to make a remix of it. I don’t know if this was implied anywhere in canon and I’m just blind but yeah I’ve never really seen this idea explored really so that’s my headcanon I guess!!
yeah so what Dave makes music and remixes things that’s pretty much canon but
I honestly don’t think that the Showtime (Remix) song is a musical masterpiece, it’s okay to listen to I guess, but not really one of my favorites despite the connotations it could possibly have (there was a great analysis of the song compared to John and Dave’s relationship but I can’t find it and I digress,) I personally think it’s a pretty bland and boring track. I’m not entirely well-versed in music but I can say honestly to me the song just sounds like the piano refrain overlayed with some alright beats and synths with some volume adjustments and that just
makes so much sense
the first (and only) time I tried making a song it was dull and boring and the samples didn’t quite flow right. even if I knew what I wanted to hear (pianos and beats, actually,) it didn’t come out how I wanted at all. Dave wouldn’t have been a musical mix master at the age of 13, he’d honestly had probably just recently started making his own music and one of his first few remixes was with John’s theme because he loves his best bro and tender bro hugs, etc (no but seriously Dave remixing Showtime just makes so much more sense to me after I sat and thought about it.)

nibbling on the bunny’s ear again without noticing.
i think it is time to put it back in the box now.
